Run away to DreamWidth. Come with me. ([info]reddragdiva) wrote,

It was amazing what she could do with her one good arm.

[info]ewtikins's recital went well. I got to hear one piece, then Freda was being so noisily participatory (she's used to church, where you join in, rather than the sort of concert where you keep quiet) that I took her to the memorial park next to Bethnal Green tube, where she ran around babbling and being amazed at HUGE BEDS FULL OF FLOWERS and chasing the doves until I stopped her.

Saturday [info - personal]arkady was going to be in [info]mirrorshard and [info]mirabehn's readthrough of A Midsummer Night's Dream and I was going to [info]aster13's party in the evening ... but Freda woke up very unwell and running a fever and throwing up. So we had an enforced family rest day in. Arkady looked after the sick Pickle and I was MAN-Man, the Superhero with the Powers of a MAN, tidying the place and building and filling a bookshelf. Which has made the lounge look so much better just by its presence. The older teenager made dinner and it was quite marvellous. Arkady and I both benefited greatly from the rest day, though. I got to play music instead of fucking CBeebies.

Today has been more Freda-minding and MAN-Manery, clearing books from the older teen's room and shopping and so forth. We're actually hoping Freda got the swine flu early and shook it off. I haven't had time to write a NotN.

The other interesting thing is the incident mentioned in the Wikimedia Blog post above: the National Portrait Gallery has threatened a lawsuit against a US Wikimedia contributor. They acknowledge his actions were not illegal in the US, but they think they can sue him in the UK anyway and demand he does certain things with his admin powers on Commons (which have promptly been removed, not at his request). They probably didn't expect the lawyer's letter promptly being put up the moment it was received, and effectively being a press release read by a hundred thousand Wikimedians and a million Slashdotters.

There are all manner of good arguments on both sides — and interesting wrinkles of who's behind what — and tomorrow morning I'll be calling (in an unofficial capacity) and seeing if there's anyone there who isn't the art gallery equivalent of Gen. Jack D. Ripper that we might be able to work something out with. That we successfully negotiated a marvellous photography deal with the V&A will help us a lot. (We put up pics from the V&A, they get lots of credit and us lauding them to the skies at every opportunity.) Their timing is a complete clusterfuck as we're negotiating lots of good deals to release stuff under free licenses (if not actual public domain) with lots of museums around the world, and one museum going feral is a bit problematic for that. Cross fingers we can work something out.

Tidying is not one of the powers of a man (unless it's tools in a garage), but keep trying. :)

I ASSEMBLE IKEA BOOKSHELVES! Ingvar Kamprad's key commercial insight, of course, was that domestic suburban husbands are not protected by the provisions of the Geneva Convention.

And that's very good and manly (although allan keys are a poor subsitute for power tools). It's the tidying bit really, worried you may have the wrong end of the stick.

And this is *me* talking.

Those photoshops are amazing. I've seen some of them (the Fun one is recent), but not all.

I love the fact so many are from universities. They're so keen to show mandated diversity... even where it doesn't exist.
