Magical mystery tour.

I've upgraded Kubuntu on this here HP Compaq 6710b to Hairy Hardon. (What were they thinking.) It's just like Gutsy except the little things are better. Suspend works properly, four seconds to sleep or wake up. The brightness buttons work now. I'm most pleased.

Been home all this week, and weekend, feeling progressively worse. I'll need a doctor's note soon. [info]arkady has the same. [info]redcountess will hopefully not get it for Whitby.

He uses a lot of Org jargon, basically (I think) he was saying the Org teaches that one can overcome migraines with mind control.

Basically when you are Clear then you are not meant to be affected by physical illness anymore. Scientology teaches that all medical conditions are psychosomatic and therefore cured by auditing. Of course this doesnt explain why hubbard, an OT9 was in constant pain in his later years...

Sticking to Gutsy 7.10 at this end for now. had a bad experience with hardy last week when they did the update that removed Compiz and make Gnome hang at the blank login. At work it's dual booting Winblow$ (because a lot of the Dell tools only work with native IE) and 7.10 for my real work with the DRBL box. Ah yes, to be the only competent admin for the Clonezilla setup!

I figured I was reasonably safe since (a) this is KDE (still 3.5.9, in fact) (b) release day is only a coupla weeks off. 150MB of upgrades today after 1GB of dist-upgrade yesterday, though. Including the trick where every time someone farts near the OpenOffice package they roll out a new version.

I tried KDE4 on Gutsy, but I wasn't that impressed. Went to a combination of KDE3, Compiz and KDE4's konsole which I preferred.

Hopefully Heron will sort out the hibernate issue I'm having and perhaps do proper suspending on this Thinkpad T42

The little quirks get better. Most of this shit (ACPI sucking) is kernel land, but stalwart fellows such as [info]mjg59 have been doing a bang-up job of turning reports from Ubuntu users into patches accepted into Linus' tree.

KDE 4 is not ready. I expect it'll be nice around 4.1 or 4.2. I'm annoyed because my FreeBSD box started on KDE 3.0.0 and it was actually entirely usable at that stage.

It must be very embarrasing to work for Microsoft right now.

Their watershed moment was a few years ago. Most of the smart people involved with their core business have left already. Its just a slow decline from here. Bill might have been able to turn them around and salvage something(he's done it before) but he doesn't care any more.
